Meet the maker
Hi, I'm Paula.
I believe the little moments in life deserve to feel special.
Every piece is made by hand in my studio in the Netherlands,
where I'm surrounded by nature and inspired by the colors and quiet moments of everyday life.
I hope each piece becomes part of someone's favorite morning coffee,
slow breakfast, or cozy evening at home.
How it all started
I never imagined I'd become a ceramic artist.
Creativity has always been part of my life.
Before discovering clay, I worked as a photographer, made handmade resin toys,
and was always looking for new ways to create.
Long before I ever touched a pottery wheel, I had already fallen in love with the idea of working with clay.
Around ten years earlier, just before moving to the countryside, I bought an old pottery wheel and a second hand kiln.
Life got busy, and they quietly waited for the right moment.
Years later, I decided it was finally time to learn. I searched for a pottery course, but couldn't find one anywhere nearby.
Instead, I signed up for a jewelry making workshop.
Almost immediately after booking it, I came across a pottery course after all.
It felt like exactly what I'd been looking for, so I signed up without a second thought.
Looking back, it's funny how one small decision completely changed the course of my life.
Falling in love with clay
Clay has taught me patience, but even more, it has taught me to let go.
Every stage of the process comes with a little uncertainty.
A piece can crack, a glaze can surprise me, or something simply doesn't turn out the way I imagined.
Rather than trying to control every outcome, I've learned to embrace the unexpected and start over when needed.
There's something almost meditative about throwing.
The feeling of clay between my hands, the quiet rhythm of the wheel, music playing softly in the background.
The sounds outside drift through the open studio door. Somehow it all fades into the background while becoming part of the moment at the same time.
And then comes my favorite part of the process: opening the kiln.
After hours of waiting, I finally get to see what happened inside. No matter how carefully I plan everything, there is always an element of surprise.
It's a quiet moment filled with curiosity.
Even after all this time, that moment never loses its magic.
It's this balance between intention and surprise that made me fall in love with ceramics.
Every piece carries a little of that quiet moment with it, and no two are ever exactly the same. I wouldn't want them to be.
My studio
My studio is my favorite place to be.
Several times a day, I walk through the garden from our home to my studio.
Sometimes I know exactly what I want to make, and sometimes I simply spend a moment there,
thinking, looking around, or letting new ideas take shape.
It's where I start my mornings with a cup of coffee, turn on some music, and spend hours working with my hands.
One piece at a time, clay slowly transforms into something that will eventually find its place
in someone's home and become part of their everyday moments.
Surrounded by nature, it's a place where time seems to slow down.
It's more than just a place where I work.
It's where I get to create, experiment, slow down, and spend my days doing what I love.
The Rainbow Potter today
What started as curiosity has grown into something I could never have imagined.
Today, my studio is filled with monthly shop updates,
shelves waiting to be packed, and pieces that travel to homes all over the world.
Every collection is still made by hand in my studio, one piece at a time.
From the first ball of clay to packing each order, every step of the process is done by me.
Knowing that these pieces have found homes all over the world still feels a little surreal,
and I honestly hope it never stops feeling that way.
Thank you for following along, supporting my work, and giving these pieces a place in your everyday moments.
